HOLIDAY BEADED REINDEER HOW TO ~ CHRISTMAS CRAFT

Welcome! So happy you dropped by! Let's start with the before and after...

Making a beaded reindeer is not complicated at all. What you need most of is time, patience, and lots of glue gun sticks! ha!

I bought several paper mache reindeer at Michael's at last year's christmas sale...70% off woohoo! Here is the BEFORE....

Now, if you get the regular "brown" paper mache (unfinished) reindeer, you should spray paint it as close to your beads color as possible...unless you want to go for something art deco.

Next, you need your beaded garland, lots of em! I used a dozen packs of 10mm x 18ft (which I also bought at a few years ago at Hobby Lobby's Christmas holiday sale for 75% off). I prefer the faceted beads because they really catch the light (the dimmer the light, the more they twinkle!)

I also prefer using these beads because they have the smaller bead in between each faceted bead; helps to make nice, tight, rows.

I start wrapping the beaded garland right at the bottom of the neck and work my way to the back, then go up the neck or do the legs; be sure to always start where the beads are so that it has a seamless appearance. Make sure your first string is straight....

and off set the 10mm beads so the sit close to the previous strand...

Continue to glue and wrap...and glue and wrap, and glue and wrap, and glue and wrap and glue....and on and on.......and on....

I like to do the antlers as well; give the reindeer a more uniformed, balanced look...

You can cut shorter strips of beads where you need it. It doesn't really show any direction when you are finished...

When you are (finally) finished gluing and wrapping, this is what you can expect your finished reindeer to look like...

...a rear view....

(the gold reindeer looks as though it is saying..."do these beads make my butt look big?!) ha!

Now, remember I said the faceted beads really sparkle in dim light...my crappy camera did the best it could...but here are a few photos. First a daytime sparkle attempt...

lights on dim...very dim...

in this next photo, you can see them in the lower right corner sparkling away! (I was taking photos of my chandelier I decorated for the holidays for another post)

before and after...

MICHAEL'S CONTEST WIN A TRIP TO SEE MARTHA STEWART SHOW IN NEW YORK CITY

When I was in Michael's yesterday, I was talking to the gal who works in the faux floral department. She told me about a contest that Michael's is having and suggested that I enter. They have weekly winners who get a $100.00 Michael's gift card, and there will be 2 grand prize winners who will each receive a trip for 2 to New York City, 2 tickets to see a Martha Stewart show, and a $250.00 gift card! It started November 1st and will run until December 20th.

So I entered my Ornament Heart Wreath!

I don't think it's likely I'll win. There are over a 1,000 entries and it's based on a voting thing. I am not a mega bloggers with over 1,000 followers and many of the entries have hundreds of votes already; so I'm thinking I won't be able to carry the numbers like the others.

So why did I enter you may ask. How could I not! To have a chance to go to New York city! To have a chance to see a Martha Stewart show! Heck, the $250.00 gift card alone is worth a try!

There are so many wonderfully creative and talented crafters here in bloggerville, I think everyone should enter! If we all vote for each other, who knows...one of us might win! Wouldn't that be great!?

You don't have to register to vote! And, you can vote for more than one entry!

If you have a moment, and you like my entry, you can put in a vote for me
here

Let me know if you decide to enter! I'd love see your entry!

Good luck to everyone who decide to enter! And a big HUG to those of you who visited my entry!

Hugs & kisses!

ORNAMENT WREATH ~ PINK SATURDAY

Happy Pink Saturday everyone! Thank you so much to our fabulous Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting!

If you haven't already, do wander over to Beverly's blog and say hello. Get comfy, grab a cuppa and enjoy all the fabulous pinks the other wonderful and clever participants have posted.

I know Thanksgiving is right around the corner, but my mind is on Christmas. So today I am going to share a heart shaped ornament wreath I made. Some of you may have noticed it in my side margin.

Each ornament was wired onto a wire frame. I only used a small dab of glue to hold the shape of the glass pearl garland where needed.

This is my favorite shot.....

wreath heart ornaments vintage glass

..a full frontal (ha!)...

some detail.....

I finished the back so that it can be hung on a wreath holder (no worries about a messy back)....

I only made a few and happy to say they all sold. They were all about 21"h x 20"w, quite large. Very labor intensive and the packing and shipping was a bloody nightmare! I swore I'd never make another after all the hassle. But, after doing this post, I might make a couple for this season, just smaller, maybe around 16".

Now, before I go, I found HGTV Share My Craft page recently...if you'd like to take a peek, you can click here

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me! I love reading your comments!

GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT IDEA & FEATHERING YOUR NEST!

Happy Pink Saturday everyone! Thank you so much to our fabulous Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting!

If you haven't already, do wander over to Beverly's blog and say hello. Get comfy and enjoy all the fabulous pinks the other wonderful and clever participants have posted.

With the holidays rapidly approaching the pace is going to pick up! In addition to all the usual holiday festivities, we will be busy decorating our homes and making out our gift list.

So, what do you buy for that friend/loved one who has everything, or is difficult to buy for? One gift idea that is not often though of is decorative tassels! Not just the run of the mill, basic ho-hum, find in any store tassel...I'm talking handmade, one-of-a-kind, little works of art tassels.

Before I show you what I put together, my fabulous daughter got a incredible Canon camera for her birthday and took these photos! I'm so jealous! The photos are so much better than what my old Sony produces!

My little Birdhouse in Winter look great in this shot!

I love its little snow covered roof....

Next is my Holiday Chic in the City Chickadee...

Love the sheer black and white polka dat ribbon and the beautiful beaded fringe against the feathers...

And for Pink Saturday, here is my chic and shabby Bird in Pink Paradise tassel....

The photo don't show how sparkly this one is, it dances in the light...

Here is a full shot agains my white painted dresser...

Another version of the silver birdhouse (I haven't thought of a name for it yet..any suggestions? I really love the silver satin ribbon agains the white fluffy fringe and the jute fringe under it.

A great shot of the faux sparkling snow on the roof .....

Here is a new Christmas tassel I made, I call him Howard the Happy Holidays Reindeer...

Isn't he a cutie?!

I love the different personality that each one has! These are all brand new, just made them this week. If you are interested, here is the link to my tassels listed on ebay. They should be there by Saturday!

A big thanks to each of you who took the time give me feedback on my new ebay listing header! I truly appreciate it. *hugs*

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me! I love reading your comments!
