If you haven't already, do wander over to Beverly's blog and say hello. Get comfy and enjoy all the fabulous pinks the other wonderful and clever participants have posted.
I love, Love, LOVE, roses! Since I have no real yard to speak of, I have a modest container garden. We have three containers full of roses. One in particular is a bit quirky, in a good way.
When I first bought it, the roses were a beautiful sherbet color. Now, before you skip down to the photo, let me clue you in it's quirkiness...it chooses it's own color. Sometimes the buds are pink and bloom orange sherbet, sometimes orange buds, pink blooms; you pick a variation between the two colors, it's likely this rose bush will do it.
This bud started out peach and now.....directly beneath this pink rose...
is this peachy pink rose...
love this shot, see the peach bud on the left behind the pink bloom....
I don't know the name of it. If you do, please clue me in. Seeing it today, you'd never guess that back in May, that rose bush (among others) was nearly destroyed. Was it insects? Inclement weather? Vanadals? Well.....I'm sure some of you have seen this photo in a previous post...
That's no cutie pie. That's the mean, nasty, dasterly, ruthless flower killer, Godzilla the Squirrel. Godzilla is soooo fat because it's been feasting in it's personal smorgasborg...our container plants! After it finished off our roses and geraniums, Godzilla started in on the impatients, see the uneven growth on the top...
That menace had to be stopped! We decided to declared war. Our weapon of choice, cat hair and the garden hose. After grooming Da Queen of Da House, instead of throwing out the cat hair, I'd spread it around the patio and inside the containers. When we caught sight of Godzilla, we'd turn the hose on it. The battle raged on for 3 weeks. Then it seems Godzilla has retreated and gone off to find another garden to pillage...here is the impatients in July...
did you notice how nicely it is growing back? And here is a photo I took the other day...
As you've already seen, the roses are growing back nicely as well. I'm sad to report that the geraniums aren't doing as well as they were before Godzilla came along.
Now, if you have any of Godzilla the Squirrels relations ravaging your birdfeeders, Susan at Between Naps on the Porch came up with a brilliant weapon! (She's so clever!) Check out her post here.
That's it for today! I'm off to see what the other fabulous participants have posted for Beverly's Pink Saturday! Everyone is always welcome! Do join us, won't you!?
Hugs & kisses!
Happy Pink Saturday, Tina! It seems as if Godzilla really had an appetite for your flowers! It looks as if you've won the battle. Your flowers are beautiful! The roses are so lovely - I'm like you - I love roses!
ReplyDeleteA big hug to Godzilla!!!!:). I understand that he had got into a routine to stay in your lovely garden between geraniums and impatients and the so lovely roses. Fortunately for our plant, we have just a couple of harmless turtle dove and some blue tit.
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful and I love the medicis flowerpot with peach rose.
Happy pink Saturday!
Thanks for visitng me. Beautiful roses you got there. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is beautiful, but your roses have stolen my heart. Your photographs are beautiful. "Hey, little missy get off that bird house!!" Don't you just hate it when they still the little birds seeds?
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday,
Karen
Beautiful flowers. Can't help it, I want to kiss the squirrel. So cute. Of course, I would probably be maimed.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Tina! I know it's Pink Saturday, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the peach roses! As for that nasty squirrel, I have such mischievous creatures here too! I LOVE to feed the birds in the late afternoons/early evenings, but the squirrels are so bold, one recently jumped right up on my porch one day, with a vocal shreak that scared the dickens out of me that day! Now I'm afraid to feed all my little sparrow and chickadee friends!.. I still do, but not quite as comfortably as I used to. I feel like I have to be on my guard! I will definitely check out Susan's post about this! Happy Pink Saturday, and hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteGodzilla the Squirrel!! Lol! I guess you've got to do what you've got to do no matter how cute they look.
ReplyDeleteRoses are always a beautiful work of art that speak one language world wide ... just beautiful!
Have a happy pink saturday & a great week.
ciao for now,
Elena :)
Tina, Happy PS. I love the roses and would love to have a rose bush like that, how cool. As always I love your blog and visiting it... so many pretty things you have.
ReplyDeleteVera
You're right; he is Squirrelgodzilla, honey! I think you should capture him and send him to the humane society for removal to another state! LOL
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Connie
I love your flowers! Very beautiful colors!
ReplyDeleteawww, he is still cute, even thou he is a monster, your little garden is beautiful
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh at your choice of words for that pesky squirrel..but I know they are pretty destructive, in the past they have eaten all my sweet potatoes vines and just randomly go through my flower garden and have snacks of some of my favorite blooms. Your impatient pot looks fabulous and I love the everchanging rose you have! Congrats on defeating the monster! Miss Bloomers
ReplyDeleteI think I have the same quirky rose, Tina! When I have a minute, I'll see if I can get a name off the tag, and will let you know. Great post, loved everything. What, you don't like squirrels? Hire my son...he shot one with a bb gun when he was 16...I could have died...I agree that he should be trapped and sent to a forest somewhere! Happy week-end! Mary
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet Pink Saturday blog post! Sadly, every Saturday for the past few weeks it has been raining in northern Michigan. So, this day always brings a little sunshine my way. Thanks so much for the treat!
ReplyDelete♥Wishing you and yours a wonderful weekend♥
Your roses are GORGEOUS!!!!!! Thanks for stopping by. I'll add you to my bloglist too. Look forward to getting to know you!
ReplyDeleteJenny
That is one porker of a squirrel...guess he enjoyed your plants to your dismay! They have come back beautifully though.
ReplyDeleteTina, Georgeous pink and peach roses...I love roses...never tire of looking at them. Happy PS.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday, Tina! Your roses and flowers are simply divine! And that squirrel {as much as I like 'em} is a very naughty squirrel!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Blessings,
Sandi
Hi, Tina,
ReplyDeleteYour rose is beautiful. I grow from 60 to 70 old garden and antique roses, but I don't recognize this one. Some of my roses do the same thing in regards to changing colors. Love, love, love your impatiens. Mine struggle all summer here in hot central Texas. I haven't had trouble with squirrels in my gardens, but I did see an armadillo early the other morning. He likes to scratch in my garden dirt for bugs and worms. However, he leaves my plants alone. Thanks for visiting me at Bunny Cottage. Have a blessed weekend. Vicki
That is the fattest squirrel I have ever seen in my life. Beautiful garden, thanks for sharing. Thanks also for your visit.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, Tina...
ReplyDeleteThat got me chuckling,Godzilla!I am glad he is staying away now.
Thank you for your dear visit today on pink Saturday.Sorry I am responding late,I got called in to do a shift at the Hospital.
Your roses are amazing, the folds on them are like works of art, lovely colors too.
Gracie...see you when I get back
The roses are beautiful, wether pink or peach! My mom has some that range from orange to pink on one bush. It looks like rainbow sherbert.
ReplyDeleteDawn
Hi Tina,

ReplyDeleteToo funny about Godzilla...he is HUGE....
ReplyDeleteYou can tell he is smiling at the camera, so proud of himself too. LOL
LOve your flower pics!
Beautiful roses. I love the colors - both peach and pink.
ReplyDeleteNow congratulations on getting rid of Godzilla! Hopefully he'll stay away and leave your plants alone!
This was such a fun pink post Tina. Thanks for sharing and for visiting!
Happy Pink Saturday and a fabulous Sunday too!
Beautiful shades of pink/peach on those roses!! Those lil ol' Godzillas can really shriek & chatter when they get mad, can't they? We had one in our bedroom of all places!! Looking back it was sort of funny running him out of there, but not at the time!!
ReplyDeleteHappy PS!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Big Hugs,
Stephanie

Your roses are truly beautiful! They are my favorite flower also. Thank goodness Godzilla found his food elsewhere. Warm wishes, Esther
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say? The roses are quirky, fun and totally fabulous - it must be lovely to guess what colour each bloom is going to be. And sorry, I love Godzilla - so fat, so fluffy, so adorable squishing your bird house, so WELL FED! It would no doubt savage a finger (or the jugular) but just has that fluffiness that makes you want to pick it up and cuddle it (although I've no doubt it's got a lot in common with piranhas...)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found the blog hints helpful. Thanks for visiting, and Happy Pink Saturday!
Love the new look, by the way.
Love all your roses! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!
Hugs, Lisa
Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI know you must be mad about your flowers...but the squirrel is cute!
~ Gabriela ~
I just love your roses whatever color they decide to be. So pretty. I should try that...a rose container garden!
ReplyDeleteYour squirrel story was very funny. Glad he's gone! He was too fat. :0)
Godzilla such a cutie but naughty:) Wow the roses and blooms are so awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove those in the pottery.
Lovely pink post. Thank for sharing Tina.
Have a great week ahead!
Hugs and blessings.

Tina, I am so glad you solved your squirrel problems. Unfortunately, cat hair and the garden hose did not work for us. Heck, we even went so far as to make our deck escape proof, and turned the cats out hoping they would scare the pesky critters away.
ReplyDeleteBut what did we find instead. The female cat sitting on the rail nose to nose with our very own godzilla exchanging purrs and squeaks as if having a tea party. And, the male scratching at the door in a wild frienzy to be let in.
I did check out the other blog and we had already heard of the slinky idea. But, we could not get the slinky to stay on the shepherds hooks that hole our bird feeders.
Thanks for the suggestions though and also a big thank you for the visit to my Pink Saturday post.
Your roses are beautiful! Glad you found a way to get rid of godzilla. Hope you had a great pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI ave never been able to grown roses. I guess I'll have to stick with my Black-eyed Susans. heehee
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you won the war! Do you think he'll be back next year? Maybe your neighbors will chase him back your way! Love the peachy rose. I bet it smells sweet too. Happy Pink Saturday and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers! I'm glad you managed to conquer Godzilla!

Bella
Tina, that story is hilarious although I am sure it wasn't for you to be living it! I am glad the flower eating squirrel has retreated now. We have tons around here but luckily they don't attack the flowers! re the rose...when I was growing up we had the identical rose that did the same things. I have no idea why or what the name of it was but it made for a pleasant surprise with each bloom!! Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteLinda

Hi Tina, I love roses too. Yours are beautiful. I can almost smell them now. Godzilla did indead look quite hefty with all of your delicious flowers in his belly! I have to say, as pesty as they may be... I love squirels.
ReplyDeleteI have had a different, much larger pest. My next door neighbor named him "Pruner." He very miticulously picked every bud and blossom off of my gorgeous orange Begonia plant. Pruner is a deer!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy Pink Saturday to you!
Mermaid Debbie
Beautiful pictures and lovely flowers!
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful and I love the pot of impatiens. I also love the squirrel - so far ours are well-behaved, maybe because the jays run them away most of the time - our trees are full of their families and eggs/babies. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteYour Roses are Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteAnd that squirrel is FAT he has been busy in your garden. I hope you can deter him somehow.
Pink roses are my absolute favorite! I used to have only a patio to garden on and I had topiary rose bushes. Your roses are gorgeous! It seems as if they do not get full sun in their location, yet they are thriving! You must have avery green thumb!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!
Love, Dana and Daisy
What beautiful flowers. Thanks for stopping by and visiting. Blessings...Sherry
ReplyDeleteI understand being invaded by godzilla's!
ReplyDeleteThe rose is beautiful and I love that it is so many amazing colors.
Thanks so much for stopping by The Old Parsonage, I love company!
Enjoy!
What beautiful flowers!!!
ReplyDeletehappy belated pink saturday!
xoxoxo
Tina...you are sooo smart...I think I'll start saving Max's hair, too! That is about the fatest squirrel I've ever seen!!! They are menaces aren't they? I didn't mention it in my squirrel post, but the squirrel also ate my new outdoor wicker that's on the deck under the pergola. I have pieces of wicker sticking up everywhere where he chewed through it...AND he ate a huge hole in one arm. I never even got to enjoy it before he did all the damage. :-( I think I'm also going to get some motion activated sprinklers for the deck...someone suggested that and I really like that idea, too.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck...your impatiens look sooo much better!
Susan
Happy Pink Saturday. Your roses are beautiful! We have deer that love to eat my flowers. Looks like you have it under control now!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a menace Godzilla was. Clever getting rid of him like that. Happy belated Pink Saturday. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJudy

ReplyDeleteI laughed myself silly at the war between you and Godzilla. Poor little squirrel never had a chance..tho he put up a good fight.:)
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday..have a lovely week, and I hope that Godzilla stays elsewhere. If he's smart he will. :)
p.s Your blog is just gorgeous. I've become a follower..I just hafta see what you make next. I love that wreath atop this post..
What a BEAUTIFUL pink rose! I can't help it, I even like Godzilla! What a funny picture! ;)
ReplyDeleteHope your PS was fabulous!
Hugs,
Sheri
Wonderful post, Tina! Who knew that a squirrel would eat all those plants? They've been known to dig up bulbs in my garden, but as yet they haven't eaten the plants or flowers . . . shhhhh . . . don't tell them!
ReplyDeleteYour roses and impatiens are glorious! I'm so glad they grew back for you and are doing so beautifully!
Happy Belated Pink Saturday!
Hugs,
Teresa
I have such a passion for roses and yours are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThe roses are beautiful and I like how it changes color. That one shot you have where it's peach with hints of orange is just beautiful. oh and The pink roses are not the typical one where every petal is surround the bud. It is somewhat ruffled.
ReplyDeleteLi
What a busy week!! Just now getting around to PS posts! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful! Hope you're having a great week!
Godzilla is kind of cute... somehow our three dogs have made their presence known sufficiently so no squirrels dare enter the yard. I LOVE your roses!!
ReplyDeleteOh, we have Godzilla's closest relations all over our neighborhood. They don't attack our flowers but I think that's because someone has a squirrel feeder in their yard. I say this because I keep finding peanut shells all over my yard! Yep, they have the buffet and I obviously have the dining room. Grrr...I could tell you stories...
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, great post. We have a fat, happy squirrel that hubby feeds corn to...you'd think they'd know when to stop. blessings!

ReplyDeleteTina, hi my friend, I may be able to help you with the rose, but not positive. There are two possibilites here, the first one being a rose called butterfly. This rose changes colors and you never know what you will get with each bloom. The next one is called and you had it right in your text, sherbert, it also has blooms of many colors. One of these changes colors as the bloom opens, I think it's butterfly. The other produces blooms of many different colors. I hope this helps you if even a little bit. You can look them up and see if I am correct. Happy Pink Saturday my friend and either way, they are gorgeous, Char
ReplyDeleteOh Tina!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday sweetie. I so love your flowers. My gosh that impatience is just stunning and so colorful. Now Godzilla was just downright a nuisance. Thank goodness he finally got the message and decided to move on somewhere else, or continually get sprayed with the hose. I love it. Thanks for sharing sweetie. Please stop by and let me share my pink post with you. I would so love to show you what I did with my black cast boot. Country hugs sweetie, Sherry
Hi Tina, me again.
ReplyDeleteI love the changes you've been making to your blog while away.
I have an award for you at my blog if you'd like to accept it.
When I started blogging I saw all these beautiful awards and thought the creativity behind them and the thoughtfulness of them was very special. I didn't realize they came with strings and was curious why some bloggers were "Award Free". Well, rules sometimes must give way to practicality so if you can only pass it on to a few people that is fine with me. Even if you can't play along please accept this award and my sincere belief that you deserve it.
Hugs
Dawn
